SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – The Notre Dame football team received two nice Christmas gifts this week after getting a lump of coal on Monday.
That lump of coal was the news that starting defensive lineman Rylie Mills was out for the rest of the playoffs after injuring his knee against Indiana.
While the Irish move on and continue to prepare for their matchup against Georgia they did get some really good news this week.
First, they landed Virginia standout receiver Malachi fields in the transfer portal to bolster their receiving corps next year. He has been a very productive receiver for the Cavaliers and he is considered a freak athlete. The Fighting Irish have struggled to find big play receivers.
Then, they received a commitment from offensive line recruit Ben Nichols of Michigan. The 6-foot-5, 320 pound lineman will join Notre Dame’s 2026 class. He chose the Irish over offers from Wisconsin, Penn State, Tennessee, Ohio State, Alabama and Florida State, just to name a few.
Marcus Freeman continues to recruit at a high level and it shows on the field. Notre Dame may not win it all this year, but they have the athletes and the depth of talent to compete with anyone in the country.
