Kane Wommack tops highest-paid Alabama football assistants in 2024


Aside from only a few assistants, this was an all-around new coaching staff for the Alabama Crimson Tide in 2024.

With a coaching change at the very top in Kalen DeBoer, only a few members of Alabama’s staff from the 2023 season under Nick Saban remained, which included two assistants, the strength coach, and a few others elsewhere.

Even despite this however, Alabama still had one of the SEC’s top coaching staff’s in 2024 that not only helped the Crimson Tide go 9-3 during the regular season, but also land one of the nation’s top 2025 recruiting classes.

Here is what every assistant coach on Alabama’s 2024 staff made in 2024, according to the USA TODAY Sports’ annual assistant coaches salary database:

Nick Sheridan, Offensive Coordinator

2024 Salary: $1,350,000

Sheridan is the second-highest paid assistant on Alabama’s staff at $1.35 million in 2024. The first-year Alabama offensive coordinator led the Crimson Tide’s offense to an average of 35.5 PPG in 2024, which ranked No. 17 nationally.

Kane Wommack, Defensive Coordinator

2024 Salary: $1,550,000

Wommack is the highest-paid Alabama assistant this season at $1.55 million, as well as No. 19 in college football among assistants. The former South Alabama head coach, who is in his first season with the Crimson Tide, has Alabama’s defense ranking No. 10 nationally at only 17.2 PPG allowed.

Freddie Roach, Defensive Line

Roach, who coaches the Alabama defensive line, ranks as the Crimson Tide’s fourth-highest paid assistant at $1 million. The former Alabama player has been the Crimson Tide’s defensive line coach since the 2020 season.

JaMarcus Shephard, Wide Receivers

2024 Salary: $1,100,000

Shephard is the third-highest paid Alabama assistant coach at $1.1 million. The first-year Alabama assistant coaches the Crimson Tide wide receivers.

Robert Gillespie, Running Backs

2024 Salary: $850,000

Gillespie, the Crimson Tide’s running back’s coach, sits at No. 7 among Alabama’s highest-paid assistants at $850,000. A member of the Saban staff a year ago, Gillespie has been Alabama’s running back’s coach since 2021.

Colin Hitschler, Defensive Backs

Hitschler, who is in his first season at Alabama, ranks No. 8 among the highest-paid assistants at $675,000. The first-year Alabama assistant currently coaches defensive backs.

Maurice Linguist, Defensive Backs

Linguist was tied for the fifth-highest paid Alabama assistant coach this season at $875,000. In his first season at Alabama, Linguist also coaches the defensive backs.

Bryan Ellis, Tight Ends

Ellis is the lowest-paid Alabama assistant coach at $550,000 in 2024. The tight ends coach is in his first season at Alabama in the role.

Chris Kapilovic, Offensive Line

Kapilovic is in his first season as Alabama’s offensive line coach after coming from Michigan State. The offensive line coach is tied with the aforementioned Linguist at No. 5 at $875,000.

Christian Robinson, Outside Linebackers

In terms of the highest-paid Alabama assistants in 2024, Robinson ranked No. 9 at $650,000. The outside linebackers coach is currently in his first season with the Crimson Tide program.

David Ballou, Strength Coach

Lastly, Ballou is one of the highest-paid strength coaches in college football, ranking second in the nation at $950,000. Ballou is currently in his fifth season at Alabama.
