Man surrenders hours after being named suspect in deadly bar shooting

A 21-year-old man surrendered to authorities Saturday hours after police announced he was wanted in connection with a deadly shooting last month at a central Lubbock bar.

Robert Cervantes III surrendered himself about 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Lubbock County Detention Center after police announced he was wanted in connection with a Nov. 29 shooting at a bar in the 1600 block of 50th Street, according to a statement from Lubbock police.

According to LPD, officers were called out at 1:29 a.m. for a report of shots fired at the bar and where, upon arrival, 28-year-old Nick Rodela-Garcia was found with serious injuries. Rodela-Garcia was taken to via ambulance to University Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Investigators believe Rodela-Garcia was involved in a verbal altercation with Cervantes, which escalated into a fistfight, at which time Cervantes allegedly produced a gun and shot Rodela-Garcia.

An arrest warrant charging Cervantes with murder was issued on Friday, Dec. 6.

Other details about the shooting were not immediately available as the investigation is ongoing.
