UW-Oshkosh’s future College of Business, Arts and Communications, just months from launch, received two big boosts from the Universities of Wisconsin Board of Regents.
A modernized and accessible Music Hall facility and new bachelor’s degree program in business analytics will move forward in 2025, after Regents approved the UWO proposals at its meetings December 5 and 6 in Madison.
Music Hall
A $2.8 million project funded by the state, will renovate the Music Hall facility to comply with accessibility guidelines and acoustical performance features that meet auditory health and safety requirements. The project will provide new vestibule areas on both the upper and lower levels and new wheelchair seating areas to meet current accessibility standards.
The renovations also will modify and enhance the ventilation systems, tiered seating configurations, as well as providing new handrails and aisle/pathway lighting, acoustical finishes and features and updated seats throughout the hall. New instructional technology will be part of the project, including audio/video and recording systems; electronically controlled data projection screens/controls and new lighting controls.
“The students are excited about the upgrades,” said Nathan Krueger, associate professor of music and music department chair. “All of the students, both majors and non-majors who participate in ensembles will get the experience of an top-rate acoustical environment that will enrich their artistic experience. The modifications will be adjustable to different kinds of set-ups so that everything from small chamber groups to amplified jazz bands can perform in a space that is tailored to their sound.”
Construction is planned to start in June 2025, with substantial completion by the end of the year.
Bachelor of Business Administration in Business Analytics
A new bachelor’s degree program in business analytics elevates the existing business analytics certificate and minor options at UWO.
The program will train students in basic statistical analysis, spreadsheet analysis, data visualization skills and several other skills, including basic programming knowledge in Python and database management. Students will learn how to communicate analytical interpretations to peers and managers in business.
UWO student interest in business analytics has remained strong in the certificate and minor and students have indicated they would choose a business analytics major if given the opportunity, recognizing they would be even better positioned to enter the job market.
The labor market within 100 miles of UWO shows more than 200 jobs requiring data analysis skills and more than 300 high-paying jobs demanding the skills available throughout the state.
The new UWO bachelor’s degree program will be available for the fall 2025 semester.
