Bixby QB Cooper Parker on scoring game-winning 2-point conversion to beat Owasso
EDMOND — Here are three takeaways from Bixby’s 43-42 win over Owasso in the Class 6A-I championship game in the Oklahoma high school football playoffs on Friday night.
Player of the game: Cooper Parker. Bixby’s senior quarterback was stellar all night long. Parker led the team with 20 carries for 81 yards and three touchdowns in his final high school game.
Key moment: After Owasso scored to take the lead in overtime, Parker scored on a 5-yard touchdown run to bring the game within one point. Head coach Loren Montgomery elected to go for two and the win, in which Parker scored yet again on a 3-yard score to secure Bixby’s eighth consecutive state title.
Read option: Owasso had 338 rushing yards in the loss, spotlighted by its backfield tandem of Jayden Hall and Jayson Moll. Hallled the Rams in rushing on Friday, taking 24 carries for 202 yards and three touchdowns. Moll added 20 carries for 132 yards and a touchdown additionally.
Bixby vs. Owasso score updates in Class 6A-I state championship
The game is deadlocked at halftime between two of the state’s top programs. Owasso’s early lead was built on the back of standout individual performances. A 72-yard run by running back Jayden Hall and a 67-yard touchdown from receiver Noah Hill were the highlights of the Rams’ first half. Meanwhile, Bixby’s Cooper Parker’s 14-carry, 54-yard rushing first half, along with two rushing touchdowns, has kept the Spartans in the game.
