Ruben Amorim has called on Manchester United fans to trust the process after his side fell to back-to-back defeats in the space of a week.

Nottingham Forest pulled off a deserved 3-2 win making it their first triumph here since December 1994.

It means United remain slumped in 13th in the Premier League with Amorim having earned just one win from his first four games in England’s top flight.

‘We already knew [it would be tough],’ the United head coach admitted.

‘It will be a long journey but we want to win because this is a massive club.

‘You feel it, when you lose one game it’s really hard for everybody. I can understand that. I can feel it in the stadium after the first goal.

‘We understand the context but we have to keep in the same way, doing the same things.

‘The same words I have here with Everton, I have today. Focus on the performance. We need to improve in a lot of aspects of the game and continue to do the same things tomorrow in training.’

United fell behind inside two minutes, conceding from another corner, before Rasmus Hojlund dragged them back on level terms.

But the game got out of hand in the early stages of the second half and in the blink of an eye as the rain came down United were 3-1 down after a major error from Andre Onana gifted Morgan Gibbs-White a goal before Chris Wood added a third.

For Amorim, who warned a ‘storm will come’ before defeat at Arsenal in midweek, this is no time to panic.

‘I had this and worse in Sporting in the beginning,’ he explained.

‘The feeling for me is the same but for the world it’s completely different. You know Sporting in Portugal but Manchester [United] has a lot of attention but for me it’s the same feeling.

‘I had this period at Sporting and if you are a little experienced in football this happens with a lot of clubs and we have to manage to continue to do the same things and improve the team because this will turn around.

‘We need time and to continue to work in the same way every day.’

Attention now turns to Thursday night and a crucial Europa League clash away to Czech side Viktoria Plzen, with United trying to claw back a stuttering start in Europe to ensure they progress to the next round.
