Woman released from hospital Tuesday later found dead

A Texas woman who was released from the hospital early Tuesday morning with just a bus pass was later found dead, her family told local media.

Stephanie Troilo, 58, was last seen Tuesday morning leaving Northeast Baptist Hospital in San Antonio, part of the Baptist Health System, television station KENS reported.

Her family reported her missing Wednesday, the San Antonio Police Department confirmed to USA TODAY Monday afternoon.

It wasn’t until Sunday that her body was found, KENS and KHOU reported. Her remains were found in a creek bed two miles from the hospital she was discharged from.

According to her brother, Chris, police do not suspect foul play and she likely died after a medical episode. He told KENS she may have suffered from a seizure on Monday and that’s how she ended up at the hospital.

She was confused when she was admitted to the hospital and didn’t know who she was, he said. Her brother also told the television station that Troilo took medication on a daily basis, including medication for seizures.

Their family was concerned because it was quite cold in the area when she was released and she didn’t have much on her.

“She was discharged from the emergency room, oddly at 5 a.m. and given a bus pass and sent on her way,” her brother told the news outlet. “That was actually the last we saw of her as she was discharged as a homeless person, even more strangely, from the Northeast Baptist Emergency Room.”

The Baptist Health System did not immediately respond to emails, texts or calls from USA TODAY on Monday.

The San Antonio Police Department would not answer questions from USA TODAY about how she was found or her cause of death, citing “an open investigation.”

Family said San Antonio woman made friends easily and was outgoing

According to Troilo’s brother, she suffered from seizures as well as mental health issues. She was also “resilient and tough,” her family told KENS.

Prior to the discovery of her remains, her brother said she was talkative, friendly, outgoing and gregarious. She made friends easily, he said.

As the family searched for Troilo, they offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to her safe recovery.
